THE ASSISI BLOG - MAY 6, 2018

THE ASSISI BLOG - MAY 2018

so it started like any other ordinary day. i had been in Spoleto Italy for a week and had explored most of what is there. i was longing for a little adventure, something unusual, a "find". i'd been meaning to go to Assisi to see St. Francis cathedral, it's just a short train ride away. but i'd been too lazy. then yesterday after a caffe americano and a chocolate croissant, i decided to have an outing. i saw this pamplet thingy about a festival in assisi, bought my train ticket online, recharged my phone, caught the 13:30 train and was in assisi by 14:30.

lucky for me the last day of this festival started at 16:00! perfect! i lucked out wondering around the small town of 700 and found the spot! after a rain delay, the spectacle went off. a feast for sore eyes. the pageantry! a medieval festival in a medieval town. too classic!

by chance i ran into an american, Randi, who grew up a mile from me in Los Feliz area in LA. we had 3 bottles of Prosecco and enjoyed the proceedings immensely! turns out Randi also owns property in Greece and italy, so i could be renting her places in the future.

i had the best day, all because i decided to venture out. it was so much fun. so glad i made it and didn't miss it! the only downer was the cathedral monks barking at us in hushed tones 'NO FOTO. NO FOTOS". are you serious? i traveled all the way to your cathedral for my blog and you're telling me NO FOTO. sorry, padre, but i gotta sneak a few pics!

next stops for me include Cyprus, Rome for the Italian tennis Open, Napoli for a friend's art opening, and then Sardinia before i fly home. i'm finally getting into COTW mode and going with the flow. meeting interesting people and seeing new things! very blessed to have this free flat in Spoleto as a base camp! thanks Liesl!
